Shot with Crimson, by Nicola Upson - Sonia

I have to say firstly that I have never read any of Nicola Upson books before so I was excited to have a new author to read.

For the first couple of chapters I kept wondering if this was indeed a book of fiction or non fiction, as it seemed to me a little unusual and surprising that a novel would feature real historical figures from the 20th century as some of the main characters of the plot, including production of the film “Rebecca”, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. I often wondered if much of what Nicola has written was actually true or purely fiction. Of course Nicola would have never met the people as the plot is set in 1939. I have also read books by Josephine Tey so I found it a little difficult at first to have her fictionalised.

Once I came to terms with this, the chapters ran smoothly. I loved all the detail of the production of the film “Rebecca” with the underlying murder creeping in ever closer.

Now that I have met Josephine Tey as the fictionalised heroine, I will certainly read more of Nicola Upson’s books. She has already written eleven others, so her readers must enjoy the fictionalised Josephine Tey and much as I do now!
